39 days

This past weekend we bought paint for our soon-to-be new home. It was a big step. This was after months and months of hoarding color swatches at Home Depot and Sherwin Williams, agonizing over shades of beige and green. A sale at Sherwin Williams this past weekend (which we only found out about the day before) forced us to make fast decisions. One (long) day and seven sample paint purchases later, we finally lugged back two big boxes packed with gallons of paint. Though I still find myself constantly second-guessing our choices I'm also excited we are finally making our first major preparation to our place.

I love these colorful but simple, contemporary paintings from MadeByGirl. I was thinking that maybe I could put to use the rejected paint samples (5 colors) in a similar painting of some sort. The condo has a mildly modern flair so I think a few pieces of geometric abstract art pieces would really look nice...

A Taste of the Ebell

Yesterday Will and I attended a fabulous tasting event at the Ebell, our wedding reception venue. We sampled elements from our dinner menu, met some great wedding vendors, and walked the grounds envisioning what our September 3rd will be like.

The super sugary and super pink cotton candy cocktail

The floral arrangements were absolutely gorgeous. I Love the romantic pastel palate.

The event had a light-hearted cotton candy and ice cream vibe so we had dinner on the patio of the courtyard garden under a string of colorful lanterns. It was nice for a summer evening but got chilly pretty quickly.

Delicious Tuna Tartare

Grilled Vegetable Risotto with Basil sauce. A very pretty dish!

Sage and Thyme Chicken. This was our 3rd entree sampler...and by "sampler" the Ebell actually means serving us a full-sized portion to be shared by the two of us. So we had literally like 3 full dinners.

Lastly, a peak at the grand lounge where we will be entertaining our wedding guests in 43 days!

UCLA Engagement photoshoot

A wonderful little surprise dropped into our mailbox this past weekend: A disc of our engagement photos from our wedding photographer Gina at Pix of Life. Our photo session took place about a month ago on the UCLA campus, which we chose because we went to school there together and we really do think our campus is pretty beautiful.

It was quite interesting to experience a different type of engagement session, especially compared to our Taiwan experience back in March. I will share more details about our very interesting and memorable Taiwanese engagement photoshoot another time but in general our session with Gina was much more relaxed and natural while our photoshoot in Taiwan was very artistic and involved-- they made us feel like models but we had to work hard! Anyways, here are a few of my favorites from our UCLA engagement session~

I made this little heart-shaped pennant banner with some patterned card stock and ribbon. It was a fun prop but quite tricky to get a proper shot when the wind picked up! We actually have another photo shoot coming up this weekend with one of our photographer friends.... so believe it or not we're not quite done yet~

Cardmaggedon

How was everyone's weekends? In LA we had a little city-wide freak out known as Carmaggedon, which was in fact a dissapointment to those who were predicting mile-long backups and a traffic jam of epic proportions due to the closure of LA's clogged lifeline, the 405 freeway. But for the rest of us, it was in fact Carmaheaven. I made a record drive from home to the Santa Monica 3rd street promonade in 10 minutes on miles of clear freeway and I thought to myself, they should shut down the 405 more often! I never imagined driving in LA could be so wonderful. The real carmaggedon in fact took place this morning and takes place every morning and afternoon in Los Angeles during rush hour.

The true adversity this weekend was actually our wedding invitations-- Will dubbed our weekend Cardmageddon. It was truly a long weekend of printing, cutting, and glueing and things are just getting started... We wanted to make our invitations personal and special but it's turning out to be a lot of work. It is quite literally our sweat, blood, and tears. It's going to be a long and busy week...

All we need is love, and a few paper cutters.

Peaches with a Cherry on top!

One of my favorite things about summer is the abundance of fresh and delicious fruits! Just yesterday I had a juicy peach, a succulent plum, and a bowl full of sweet cherries. I've been spotting all sorts of delicious summer treat recipes that include fruit like this beautifully photographed coriander and raspberry ice cream from Cannelle et Vanille

One of our early-arrival wedding gifts is an ice cream maker. The first time I had homemade ice cream I was absolutely blown away by the freshness and just how much cleaner and flavorful the ice cream tasted. I can't wait to try it out!
